New Leadership at the Cornell Waste Management Institute

On January 1, 2008, Professor Murray McBride became the Director of the Cornell Waste Management Institute and Jean Bonhotal became Associate Director. The other CWMI staff members, Lauri Wellin and Mary Schwarz, will continue in their current positions. This change came about as Ellen Harrison entered phased retirement. Ellen will continue working part time for a couple of months to finish up several projects, so her official retirement is not until spring.

"I have been very fortunate to be a part of CWMI since its creation in 1987 and I have tremendous confidence in its future" said Harrison. "I have thoroughly enjoyed these 20+ years. Although I know I will miss CWMI and my wonderful colleagues at Cornell and throughout the world, I am looking forward to the next chapter. I will remain in Ithaca (my husband is not retiring for a while) and see what evolves."

McBride has worked closely with CWMI for many years and brings a tremendous knowledge of soils, chemistry and the impact of pollutants and their fate in soils. He is a professor in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at Cornell (which is the department in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences that houses CWMI).
